Jim Raymond’s first encounter with the silver king.
After a lifetime of freshwater fishing, guest Jim Raymond joined Capt. Scott Hughes for a tarpon trip. In the essay he sent afterward, Jim remembered the details: changes in bait depth, boat position, and presentation as Scott searched for the fish.
When a tarpon finally struck and leaped, the experience changed Jim’s understanding of sport fishing. The fish eventually escaped, but the power of the encounter stayed with him.
His story is a reminder that a day on the water can be unforgettable even when the fish has the final word.
